We've Been Here One Week!

It was noon last Monday that we checked in to the Sunflower Resort. There are so many opportunities for activities that we can hardly decide what to do. Me being me, I have made it my business to pour over the lists and attend the weekly "announcement" meetings. I have been setting my alarm to get up early so I can be dressed and fed and ready for the day to start by 8 a.m. And it does!

On evenings that we don't plan anything, I have been trying to work on an afghan I started in 1996 I think (and am embarrassed to admit. Ok, how many of you finish everything you start???) I am hoping that not having the distractions of home improvement projects or grandchildren will allow me to focus on this project, but there are so many things here that I want to take part in! Just in case....this is what my afghan is supposed to look like when it is finished!

Ron being Ron, he has spent his time reading the sports page in the paper, watching assorted sporting events on tv, working out in the fitness room, and napping on the couch with the remote in his hands. He is usually in bed before me, and still there when I get up in the morning. I guess he would say that his focus is on RELAXATION (except for the working out) while mine is on ACTIVITY.
We are both looking forward to some sightseeing around the state at some point, and also some time at the pool. The weather has just not been cooperating for either at this time. Today is rainy and cool. I have some homemade soup in the crockpot!

Wow. That afgan looks nice. I sure would like one of those made into a sweater for this winter!!!Heck i bet the woman that invented the afgan lives there somewhere!! I forgot to tell yall to keep an eye out for those drunk old ladys on there "little rascals"!! Might get your toe ranover!! That would make it real tough to make it to the blood pressure checking party next Friday.Anyway, Wish i could be there but they wouldnt let me stay there with my 5th wheel. Its to old and im to young. Give everyone my love, Jake

I'm so excited to have found your blog accidently through Judah's blog. I have long thought this would be a great 'vehicle' for your creative writing and photography. I'm loving "eavesdropping" in on the banter between you and your children and grandchildren; definitely a southern accent there! I envy you the trip - Kit envies Ron's right to rest as long as he likes upon retirement. He'll catch up!

Hugs to your mom and dad. They are not missing a thing here. It feels like April. All our snow is gone(coming back this weekend though) - lost to a ton of rain. We went down to see the new Tester baby Monday night and unexpectedly ran through a foot of water on the curve by "Little South America" island. There should be a 'wake law' established - it went right over the roof of the car.

Have fun! Keep notes on retirement for us! We'll get there someday!

It dawned on me yesterday last week that I often think about blogging and sharing with you the things we are doing in our retirement.  I have gone so far as sitting down at the computer and drafting a post, or beginning to.  But it can take me up to an hour to get through the process....collecting my thoughts, collecting my photos from my iPhone or my camera, getting them into the computer, filing them where I can FIND them again....and then inserting them into the post.  Very often I get interrupted with something....or just feel that I should be spending that hour doing something else....and it just doesn't get done. So...time passes and then I feel guilty.  Then I feel like I have to apologize...then that comes before a post of what we are actually DOING and I end up running out of time.  My list of drafts has several posts that begin with apologies and never get to the actual meat of the message!  Oh my!  So...here I am again...in the wee hours...

Cold Sunday afternoon

There is something about a gray Sunday afternoon when the temp is cool (I won't mention HOW cool....for those of you who live NORTH of me and may SCOFF) to make you want  a fireplace, or a snuggly blanket and a good book, or at the very least some fuzzy slippers and a steamy bowl of gumbo with hot french bread.  I guess I could scrounge up the blanket, book and some slippers! Oh well....here I sit at my computer! I promised a friend that I was going to try to blog more in 2011....and I really will try. Friday

Hi folks! I AM alive! I am sorry I haven't posted, but I have had a cold and have spent most of the week just laying on the couch. Today I felt much better and even had the folks over for a crock-pot supper. I did all my laundry today too, and we went over to "their" house for ice cream after supper. As we were visiting with Mom and Dad this evening, I mentioned that I was starting to realize that I had had some misconceptions about what our visit here would be like. I felt like we would be making more friends and socializing with these "new friends" more. I thought the weather would be a bit warmer. I thought Ron would get more involved in SOME of the many and varied activities here. Well....in many ways, my son is right. The majority of the people who are staying in this park are here for the winter.....are snowbirds who don't want to be in ice and snow during the winter....and are old.
